Questionnaire



In this post I analyse and discuss the results of a survey carried out to obtain information on what to include in our music video.

 The questions I asked were as follows:
1. On what platform do you watch music videos?
2. How old are you?
3. What music video genre do you prefer?
4. How often do you watch music videos?
5. What is your preferred genre of music?
6. What is your gender?
7. Which of the following do you feel is the most important in a music video?
8. Are you more likely to purchase a song or album if the music video is good?


In relation to question 1,  28% of responses voted for mobile devices, 57% voted for TV and 14% voted for PC. For question 2, 71% were between age 16-20, and 28% were between ages 11-15. The answers to question three showed that 57% of voters prefer narrative music videos, 14% preferred performance and 28% preferred concept music videos.We asked voters how often they watched music videos, 57% voted weekly, 28% voted monthly and 14% voted daily. In reference to question 5, 28% of voters prefer rock music, 14% prefer pop music, 14% preferred rap music and 42% preferred alternative music. So that we could get an idea on our audience profile, we asked the gender of voters; 57% were female and 42% were male. We then asked which element of a music video the voters felt was the most important; 42% felt that camerawork was the most integral part of a music video, 28% felt that aesthetic/mise-en-scene was the most important part, and 28% felt that                    narrative/concept was the most important. Finally, we asked if voters were more likely to purchase a song/album if the music video is good; to which 71% voted yes, and 28% voted no.


In response to these results, we realise we are tailoring our music video to primarily an audience of females aged 16-20, that a narrative style video is the most popular genre. We realised that we should use a song in the alternative music genre, and focus heavily on camerawork.

The music video for "If They Only Knew" by Alfie Arcuri is themed around LGBT awareness and an individual discovering their sexuality and identity. The theme of friendship is also prevelent throughout the video and that is something we wish to incorperate in our music video. Note To The Examiner

Below you will find my completed music video production, for the song "Sorry" by Nothing But Thieves. Across my two years of Media A Level study, my production, filming, editing and creativity skills have developed massively as discussed in my evaluation, and my ability to participate in teamwork and organisational work has increased to a significantly higher level. I have thouroughly enjoyed the production work I have completed in my final year of my media study, and myself, aswell as my production group, are incredibly proud of the final product we were able to create.

Evaluation Question One

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Myself and two other of the four members in our group sat down to discuss the ways in which our product uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products. We based our discussion off of the research we conducted prior to planning and constructing our product, and considering inspiration we took from these music videos we researched. There were also instances where we challenged the most common conventions of music videos, as discussed in the clip which we filmed on an IPhone 7 camera and embedded into this post.
