Editing Day Two

Image
Editing Log  As detailed in previous posts, following the switch to using iMovie as our editing software, editing our music video became somewhat of a continual process, and we edited parts of it pretty much everyday up until the deadline; in school and outside of school hours. As shown here, many shots we used a slow motion effect on, as many shots are timed to music when they're in slow motion, and colour correcting was a massive part of the editing process for us. Referring back to some of our original ideas, the LGBT theme we originally planned to incorporate is still the main crutch of the narrative; alongside this we had originally planned to incoorperate rainbow lighting in the video - this proved challenging given our equipment restrictions, and so alternatively we decided to put a black and white effect over the shots in which Hannah is still in an unhappy relationship with Josh, and when she leaves Josh and begins a relationship with my character, those shots are lef

Filming Day Six

Filming Log - Day Six Locations - Ogmore Beach      Date - 13th || February || 2018 This was our final filming session; we went to Ogmore beach to shoot the second half of the music video, where we establish the growing relationship between my character and Hannahs. Some issues we faced were weather conditions; it was extremely windy which effected how the shots looked as our hair was covering our faces for many shots. We also wanted to get a shot of myself and Hannah running away from waves and in order to get this shot, Jasmine, who was filming, stood in the ocean to make sure the shot looked authentic and was still. While we were there, we decided that we would like to end the entire music video with a shot of the word "Sorry" written in the sand and being washed away by the ocean; after we had written it in the sand we had to film continuously as we waited for the tide to come in, but did eventually manage to get the shot we wanted. As we were filming, we were abl

Marketing of Music Videos

In this post I research and discuss how music videos are marketed and how I would suggest we would market our own final product  As part of my research, I conducted a questionaire and asked the audience on which platform do they use most frequently to watch music videos, and while most of that audience concluded that they typically view music videos on TV, it is clear in popular culture that digital means such as mobile devices and another other means of accessing streaming sites, namely youtube, are rapidly growing in popularity, due to their efficiency and practicality. This is evidenced through the existence of Youtube's VEVO channels for popular artists, created solely to act as a platform for music videos. Alongside this, music channels on TV are still vastly popular, namely MTV, which has seen decades of iconic music videos displayed on its platform. When researching the ways in which music videos are marketed, it became apparent to me that creating a promotional strategy

Contacting the artist

Image
In this post I include evidence of our attempts to contact the artist in order to gain permission to use their song in our music video Jasmine took on the responsibility of asking Nothing But Thieves via twitter for their permission to use their track "Sorry" in our music video production. Update: They didn't respond to us, so we've decided to use the track but not monotize the video when we upload it to YouTube.

Filming Day Five

Image
Filming Log - Day Five Locations - Pencoed Comprehensive School                   Car Park Date - 2nd || February || 2018  This filming session was impromptu as we were in a media lesson editing on Jasmine's laptop when we realised that we had some slots that needed to be filled in the video, and we had storyboarded shots of Hannah and myself in a car laughing and talking to contrast with the shots of her and Josh looking unhappy when together. Our tutor allowed us to use her car and we had natural lighting in this filming session; however this became a problem. As it was a sunny day and the sun was quite low, it was difficult to get shots that didn't have a really  bad reflection on the windscreen of the car. In order to get close enough to the windscreen to see mine and Hannahs expressions, and again as a result of our lack of professional equipment, Jasmine literally had to lay on the bonnet of the car. However, we did end up getting some decent shots that we feature

Analysis of "Miss Jackson"

Image
In this post I analyse the music video for "Miss Jackson" by Panic! At The Disco and explore  The music video for Miss Jackson begins, similarly to the music video for "Sorry" by Nothing But Thieves, with titles against a black screen, reading "Vegas NV, 3am." Alternatively to an establishing location shot, we are directly told the setting through titles. Alongside this, the video features diegetic sound of wind and just general outdoor sounds. We are then shown the motel in which the music video begins; a blue light wash is used over the setting, an interesting use of artificial light which contrasts with the fire that then comes into the frame. Already, the setting and mise-en-scene as a whole suggests a 60's-70's look to the video, created through the motel and model of TV we see inside the protagonists room. A feature in the first part of the video which particularly inspired me were the mirror shots; we see an over the shoulder shot of th

Functionality Of Magazine Advert

Image
I created a mock-up of how my magazine advert would look on an actual magazine. To do this, I used the grouping tool to select the whole creation rather than move individual elements of the image. Following this, I used the warp tool to manipulate the image to the correct sizing of the page, and the  used the paint bursh tool to create a glossy sheen down the page as would be seen in a real magazine advert with high quality paper. I used a simple image of an open magazine template to place my production against to display the functionality of my magazine advert.

Finished Magazine Advertisement

Image
In this post I show and discuss my completed magazine advertisement for the album. This is my completed magazine advertisement for the album. I chose the same background that I featured on my CD cover, but cropped the image, as it was horizontal. I chose a simple white typography with a minimal black shadow effect on the text, and I included a common convention of magazine advertisements that I saw frequently through my research  which is line seperating text; I chose to place this underneath the album name and above the release date. Text-wise, I obviously included the album title and artist name situated at the top and centre of the advert, aswell as singles that the album features, and at the bottom of the advert I included formats in which the album is available and the website for the artist. I experimented with various text tools but decided to only use a slight shadow effect on the text to make it stand out but keep it's simplicity, which is a convention I liked when loo

Analysis of "Sorry"

Image
In this post I analyse the existing music video for our chosen song, "Sorry," by Nothing But Thieves The music video begins with the song name and artist titles in orange typography against a gravel background, accompnied with diegetic sound of the outdoors. As actual shots begin, still before the actual track has started, they are broken up by static noise and images of fire, and the actual shots feature people in distress and chaos, similar to news features when there is emergancy or attacks. When the track starts playing, we see a two-way over the shoulder shot of a couple from the backseat of a car; they are arguing. Continuing to break up these narrative shots of the couple arguing, is blurred footage of conflict chaos and panic, some of which looks as though it is recorded on a home camera and some appearing to be news footage. We then see the artist walking towards the camera, and the camera back tracks to keep an equal distance to the artist; he is lip syncing to th
